When Dan was about 10, his grandfather gave him his first camera.  In the 40 odd years since, Mr. File has constantly honed his visual voice and image vocabulary.  In the process of his artistic exploration, throughout the theatre, university teaching, and photographic discovery, Dan has never been without a camera close at hand.

Dan received his B.S. in Education at Eastern Illinois University and earned his Master of Fine Arts at the University of Minnesota.  After teaching at several universities, Dan relocated his family so he could teach at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Mr. File’s photographic work has been:

•     Seen in galleries throughout the midwest

•     On display in commercial establishments

•     Commissioned by, among others, the internationally renowned Kansas City architectural firm of HNTB

•     Featured as a “Structure Series” of architectural jigsaw puzzles by Publisher Services, Inc., Atlanta, Georgia.

•     Hanging on the walls of private residences throughout the US and from London to Paris and back.

Specializing in landscape and architectural images, Dan is known for his excellent use of the available light and shadow.  His images capture the three-dimensional sculpting and textural qualities that enhance the richness of detail often overlooked.

Dan is available for commission to shoot formal & informal portraits (including high school senior images), commercial set-ups, artist portfolio images, theatre archival imagery, figure studies, boudoir images, and headshots for actors, dancers and models.  Examples of these works are available for you to browse in his galleries.
